Excellent family resort

The staff are wonderful, the resort clean and well maintained. The buffet was excellent, the al-a carte restaurants good (some better than others). Pools are good, particularly the lazy river. There were some nice included extras, such as the coffee shop (offering lattes, espressos, frappes, iced coffees etc. etc.) was within the standard all-inclusive package (which it sometimes isn't at other resorts). The gym was decent for a resort hotel gym. Good mix of evening shows, some better than others, but a decent variety for different tastes. The house band who played the lobby area around dinner times every evening were excellent (and probably the best act!). Points to note: The sea is very heavy with Sargassum (sea weed) and quite choppy at times; obviously, this is not the hotel's fault and indeed they make a lot of effort to clean the Sargassum from beech every morning; but don't go expecting crystal clear water if you are a 'sea person'. The 'Cosmic Lanes' arcade / bowling which gets publicity on the website isn't in the all-inclusive (and is very expensive), so we didn't use it; not that you really go to the Dominican to go bowling.

Title: Amazing trip and even better people We had such a great trip to Dreams Onyx. The resort was beautiful, but honestly the people were what made the experience so memorable for us. Our butler, Zorro, was amazing from start to finish. He checked in with us, helped with whatever we needed, and just made the whole trip easier. He was always responsive and made sure we were taken care of without ever making it feel like too much. We really appreciated having Zorro throughout the week and would absolutely want to have him again if we come back. We also had some other amazing people take care of us during the week. Jeans and Mariano were both great at the pool and always made sure we had what we needed. Monica, our housekeeper, did such a great job with our room and took really good care of us throughout the stay. And Ishmael was seriously one of our favorites. He brought us drinks and food, checked on us all the time, and always made us laugh. He had such a good sense of humor and was so attentive. He somehow always knew when we needed something and made our pool days that much better. A huge thank you to Zorro, Jeans, Monica, Mariano and Ishmael. You all made our trip so much more enjoyable and are a big reason we had such a good experience at Dreams Onyx. And another special thank you to Zorro for looking out for us all week and making sure everything went smoothly — having him there really did make a difference in our vacation. We had an amazing time and would definitely come back.

Rated 3 star due to following issues : beach horrible , travel agent at trip central should have known which hotel and beach did not have seaweed. So did not go to beach at all . Main reason for coming to dreams in first place . People are friendly staff are friendly and generally good but few of them very aggressive for tips . Especially when going on excursion…you have to be very vigilant and constantly checking when your tour bus leaves ect.. or you will miss your ride . Trip was $ 255 for two people and no catamaran. Food was ok .. guide was nice .. but boat crew was very aggressive on tips . Only had a 20 $ us bill asked for 10 back crew gave me a wet $10 bill so I let him have the full $20. Had to pay for ect piña colada drink another $10 there. Beach at island was nice but seaweed smell and in water made it hard to swim and snorkel . Only sand bar was nice but no fish just little white fish and tons of boats riding around . You fave to be careful not to get hit . Hotel rooms average had to change rooms since shower door was falling off and water leaking in bath tub. Steak and fish fresh but way overcooked . Same food all the time no variety or changes in Buffet .boring . .. had to wait 30 min just to get sun side eggs . Splash pool with rides good but be careful on top rides you will scrape your elbows . Overall ok .. made it work for my son to have fun . Way better options at other islands .. it’s worth it you Spend a little more and get a better experience elsewhere.
